CAFA for Development organized a comprehensive three-day training workshop in East Al-Gezira Locality, targeting four key areas: Rufa’a, Dalout Al-Bahr, Bant, and Buayda.Â
The workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of community nutrition volunteers in identifying, managing, and preventing severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and moderate acute malnutrition (MAM).Â
It also highlighted the essential role of community awareness and early detection in improving children’s health outcomes.
During the training, volunteers received in-depth theoretical sessions covering the causes and signs of malnutrition, proper screening methods, and effective communication techniques for delivering accurate nutritional messages to families.
Trainers emphasized the importance of community engagement, awareness campaigns, and household-level behavior change to reduce malnutrition rates. Volunteers were encouraged to apply standardized tools and techniques to support early referral and timely treatment.
On 27 November, the workshop included a practical session conducted at Rufa’a Hospital. Volunteers were trained in real case management procedures within the Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) and the Stabilization Center (SC).
They observed assessment steps, admission criteria, follow-up requirements, and patient flow. This hands-on experience strengthened their understanding and increased their confidence in managing malnutrition cases in community settings.
The closing ceremony featured the distribution of certificates to all participating volunteers.
The event was attended by the Director of Health Affairs, the Nutrition Officer at Rufa’a Hospital, and the Health and Nutrition Officer from CAFA.
They commended the volunteers’ commitment and emphasized the need to continue community-based nutrition activities in the coming months.
