CAFA Development Organization  (CAFA) – North Kordofan/El-Obeid State Office, in collaboration with the Social Development Sector and with support from UNICEF, carried out a Mine and Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) Risk Education activity in coordination with the National Mine Action Center.

The activity targeted youth clubs and volunteers, girls’ clubs, and women’s groups across Sheikan, Um Rawaba, and El Rahad localities between 10–13 January 2026.

Participants were introduced to different types of explosive remnants, how to recognize warning signs and indicators of suspected hazardous objects, and the safe behaviors to follow when encountering unfamiliar items.

Sessions also emphasized the importance of avoiding military zones and former conflict sites, and the severe risks of touching, moving, or burning suspicious objects, due to the high danger they pose to civilians and property.

This initiative forms part of CAFA’s ongoing efforts to enhance community awareness and civilian protection, especially for women and youth, and to contribute to building a safer environment for local communities
